Consider carefully before entangling your affairs with MD Management. This company is now owned by Scotia Bank and is no longer able to offer the personalized, tailored services required by medical doctors. This has been apparent in MD Management’s role as executor of my late father’s estate. My mother has been contacted regularly with a stream of questions about the estate by an associate who lacks both sensitivity and a basic comprehension of estate law. Her emails and phone calls have come across as demanding and terse. Any questions asked by my mother have been ignored or deferred. Additionally, the Scotia Bank associate was unaware whether or not jointly owned property and the family home formed part of the estate (it does not). She told my mother that she wasn’t allowed to sell her home until the associate looked into it, which she never did. No intention had ever been expressed to sell the home, so this command only served to hurt and offend, while illustrating this associate’s lack of competence in her field. I accompanied my mother to a meeting at the Scotia Bank main branch where we took the time to personally deliver a large inventory of assets related to the estate. Our meeting was held in the middle of a lobby, where we reviewed documents and signed contracts while a steady stream of people passed by. The associate would not sit down with us. This felt uncomfortable, unprofessional and really just bizarre. Additionally, my mother was refused a copy of the will, despite being the spouse and being named in the will. I was confident that this estate would be settled in a fair, respectful and efficient manner, in a way that reflected my family’s accommodating responsiveness to any and all requests. The executor fees were anticipated and considered a worthwhile cost for managing the complexities of this estate. MD Management has lacked sensitivity and a spirit of mutual cooperation but seems preoccupied with the percentage of estate that they are entitled to. I will be personally telling all the physicians in our contacts to avoid MD Management.
