Lifetime of Excellent Service. I have been a customer for over 37 years. I have moved out of state and then to northern California. I still do all of my banking with STRATA (KFCU). They have taken care of our family all this time. Sure there have been hiccups but 98% of the time we have been treated with the greatest respect and care.

This local credit union offers outstanding all around value. I received my 1099 for my Kasasa checking and I earned over $200 for the year in direct cash rewards. The online/mobile banking is surprisingly robust for what one would expect from a local credit union. I have all my loans at Strata as well. When I shopped around, all of the local credit unions were very similar on rate and terms. Strata offered a small rate discount for having a checking account and auto payment. Done deal. They pay me cash for doing things I would normally do anyways.

Staff if helpful, welcoming, and always trying to go that extra mile to help. The only complaint I seem to have is not enough staff during the 12-1 hour. I'm a county employee and only have the lunch hour to get my banking down in person, the Truxtun Ave. branch seems to have this problem more than the Riverlakes location. However I know that it is lunch time and people need their breaks so I'm not going to fault them for that. Overall, highly satisfied with my banking choice!

Kern FCU is a pretty good credit union. Their rewards checking accounts are awesome but there are plenty of things that makes this small credit union really bad. For one thing, their financial services representatives will never answer in the afternoon. I tried calling them multiple times in the afternoon and never got an answer which sucks because I work in the morning and can't call them then. I requested a call back and what do you know , they called me back in the morning when I'm at work and when I called back in the afternoon they don't answer. Guaranteed to see a representative if you go down to the branch but otherwise good luck. Their savings, despite advertising as "high APY" is actually pretty low. As soon as I put my money in the savings, my APY went from 0.50% one month, to 0.27% the next month. When I was with Alliant my APY was always 1% which is why my savings grew so fast. Besides the terrible customer service and okay APY, the credit union is awesome with a great rewards checking. I recommend opening a checking and using a different account for savings like Synchrony or American Express savings account where they offer 1% or 0.90%. There's more out there that offer high savings.

The location is fantastic, I am always able to get in and out relatively fast. Even on Fridays, which is nearly impossible at most similar institutions. The service has always been fast and friendly. I have utilized mobile banking quite often with little to no issues. If there is anything I need assistance with, the representatives are always a quick call away and able to answer all my questions. I also feel really safe and secure when utilizing their website due to the security authentication processes. They are far more detailed than others I have experienced in the past and this allows me to accomplish a lot more online. The fees are minimal, and only takes $25 to open a checking account. Kern FCU is definitely a great institution, I highly recommend them!
