Ameriprise’s advisors aggressively push in-house VUL policies to earn commissions, even trying to sell a policy on my 9-month-old child who has no income or need for life insurance. Their priority seems to be sales over responsible financial guidance, which caused a great deal of stress and heartache. I would strongly warn anyone considering Ameriprise to think twice and be extremely cautious about the products they promote.

If you don't designate an advisor who can bottom feed easy fee money off your account, they will actually force your account into cash off to the sidelines, so you make no money on your investments. And they liquidate your account just prior to turning 59 so you lose like 90% of its worth in early withdrawal penalties and taxes. So if you want to put your money into someone else's piggybank for them to siphon fees from for 40 years and come out at the end with exactly what you put in in 1990, go for it.

I have had two of their planners. One was more despicable than the other. When I sensed emails or expressed my concerns, he never answered. When I called the company, I got mixed customer service. Without my knowledge and in both instances they wrongfully took their agents' positions without making any credible efforts to talk to me. In the last instance, they moved my account to a house account without notice or consultation. I found out about this change by accident. I find their conduct and hypocrisy contemptible and a breach of their duty to me. I find this entity arrogant and if you rely on my experiences, i would you avoid them like the plague. They are not consumer friendly. They are arrogant. Their conduct is a complete turnoff. In facts, it disgusts me. If you want more specifics.

I have been trying to transfer my funds out of Ameriprise since the middle of February. Papers were filed for each account and done exactly the same. One account transferred, the one with the least amount in it. Since then I have been given the run around. Wrong papers filed (same as the one that transferred), mail came back wrong address (my address hasn’t changed in 5 years and other correspondence was coming to me), wrong email address (same one they are sending my statements too which I receive) and it goes on and on. I am giving until the end of May then I am going to file a complaint. In the meantime they have been collecting exorbiant fees on my accounts. May be a fine company to invest in (if they will listen to you) but he’ll to get your money from them! I would NEVER recommend.
