Healthgrades is frequently criticized by both patients and medical professionals, with many arguing it is an unreliable, biased, or functionally useless platform for evaluating doctors. Major criticisms revolve around a lack of verification for reviews, potential for fake content, and a "pay-to-play" model where doctors can pay to manage their profiles, leading to accusations that the site prioritizes advertising revenue over accurate, unbiased information. Here is a breakdown of why many consider Healthgrades a poor resource for medical reviews: Lack of Review Verification: Anyone can leave a review without proving they were an actual patient, allowing for fake, malicious, or highly subjective reviews to populate a doctor's profile. "Shady" Business Model: Critics compare Healthgrades to Yelp, alleging that the site pressures doctors to pay for premium services to gain control over their profiles, which may allow them to hide negative reviews or promote positive ones. Data Inaccuracy: Profiles are often automatically generated using scraped data, leading to incorrect, outdated, or missing information about a physician's practice location, qualifications, or disciplinary history. Ignoring Malpractice Claims: Research has shown that while Healthgrades lists some, it may fail to report a high percentage of actual medical malpractice claims and disciplinary actions, offering a false sense of security. Subjectivity Over Quality: Reviews tend to focus on "bedside manner" or staff efficiency rather than the physician's technical medical competence. Censorship Allegations: Some users report that Healthgrades rejects legitimate, one-star reviews that are critical of a doctor, suggesting a bias toward keeping profiles looking positive to maintain relationships with paying advertisers. Alternative Options Because of these issues, many experts suggest relying on other sources for researching doctors, such as state medical boards (for disciplinary actions), official hospital websites, and, in some cases, peer recommendations over crowdsourced, unverified online reviews.

Highly censored/rejected/blocked entries if patient reviews of providers are negative. In my opinion, this invalidates this as a resource of authentic lived experience patient reviews. Another fluff site that deceives versus offering patients information to make informed choices. Shameful. We all deserve better.

My appointment with Dr. Martinez was a disaster. The office was chaotic, the staff were rude, and I felt like I was just another number to them. I would not recommend this doctor, 1 star.

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Brown. He was dismissive, rushed through the appointment, and didn't seem to care about my health concerns. I would not recommend him, 1 star.

This company claims that integrity, and transparency are among their values and yet they make it literally impossible to talk to anyone in this company. I’m guessing everything else about them is a lie and they are just another dodgy internet scam. But hey, if you are not give me a call. I left my name and number in many of your various portals.

This site is a scam. If you find a doctor, they list a "New Patient" phone number and make it look like it's associated with the doctor. It is not, it is a scam to collect your personal information, after which they just forward you to the doctor's number that they list as the number for "Existing Patients" without passing along any of that information to your doctor.
