After being a loyal customer for 5 years—mostly because I felt locked in by their gift card system—I can confidently say I do not recommend SpotOn. The trouble started on Day 1 with faulty equipment. The main terminal had a 25% success rate with tap payments, and we frequently battled 'ghost charges' where customers were charged but the terminal showed nothing. Tech support was useless; despite months of calls, their only solution was to reset the machine every time. I eventually gave up and relied solely on the portable handheld device because it was the only unit that could actually accept tap payments, even though it couldn't swipe cards or read gift cards. The system is incredibly slow, and the third-party gift card integration is a nightmare. You cannot easily verify balances, edit amounts, or even track down a lost card's balance using a receipt. Fear of losing that data was the main reason I stayed so long, but I finally figured out how to transfer it to a new provider. The final straw came when my handheld unit died. Instead of replacing the defective hardware, they demanded $700 for a new one. I finally switched, and the difference is night and day: faster speeds, total control, and a lifetime guarantee on hardware. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of SpotOn.

First, they have fantastic customer service. Every time I have called with a question or a problem, my needs were met. I have never had a problem with the warranty service either. That’s the best thing about Spot On. Fantastic customer service!!! But…. I have used Spot On for 9 months. It’s difficult to tell if the collar is on or off because it’s a series of blinks of a single light that you have to memorize or look up. Three times I’ve had to call because the battery won’t charge. All three times it was fixed over the phone. It doesn’t help you though if the battery is dying on a weekend night. One collar had to be replaced. Another issue is that it isn’t easy to navigate to where you activate and deactivate the fence. Also, both the collar and your cell phone have to have good service in order to track. We have had dogs at this house for 23 years. We chose SpotOn over wireless fences for our pup last March that give the dogs a little jolt when they cross the radius of the fence because it is so much more adaptable, gives us the option of allowing the dog to roam around the entire property vs. a little circle, and allows us to set up boundaries when we travel. But with these reliability & difficulty issues, coupled with the fact that the static corrections are not strong enough to cause an animal to respect the fence, like they did with PetSafe, when on a chase is just extremely frustrating.
